Improving Backup Power During Extended Power Outages

This client had a sufficient standby power solution in place, but lacked the fuel capacity to sustain operations during prolonged outages. A larger, more reliable fuel storage system was essential to ensure seamless continuity in case of emergencies.

However, the project presented several hurdles we had to figure out how to clear. As the location was in a central city location, the installation required meticulous planning to prevent disruption to surrounding occupied buildings. 

Smart, Bespoke Design for Maximum Efficiency

HG Projects engineered a tailored fuel storage solution, installing two high-capacity bunded tanks to provide fuel for each standby generator.

• One 10,000-litre tank dedicated to a 1000kVA Perkins generator.
• One 18,000-litre tank servicing a 1600kVA Cummins generator.

Both tanks had advanced monitoring and safety features, including Ocio level gauges with BMS integration, overfill protection devices, bund alarms and double-skinned fuel connections for reliability.

Due to its proximity to an adjacent building, a fire-rated barrier was installed near the 10,000-litre tank to ensure our installation complied with regulations.
