Background

Powering a Critical In-House Data Centre

Skyes & Sons reached out with a challenge. A commercial property they were working on needed an N+1 UPS system to ensure uninterrupted power for the data centre and communication centre they were operating in-house. The challenge in question was a floor loading concern that had arisen. As the work had to be carried out on the third floor of an office building with a raised flooring system, there was a risk of structural stress from installing two 40kVA UPS units with heavy battery cabinets.

Project Overview

Reinforced Stability to Accommodate the Raised Flooring System

HG Projects developed a tailored approach to distribute the weight safely while maintaining full accessibility. Custom-made metal frames were designed and installed beneath the raised floor, spreading the load evenly so that the raised floor remained stable and efficient in the long term.

We added an external switch that lets the two UPS units work together. This means maintenance can be done on one unit without stopping the power, keeping everything running smoothly all the time.

Outcome

Flawless Implementation, Future-Proof Resilience

The design, assembly, testing and electrical installation were completed on schedule, meeting client expectations. By combining effective weight distribution solutions with cutting-edge UPS technology, HG Projects delivered a reliable and scalable power protection system that ensures the data centre remains operational without risk of disruption.
