Background

Reliable Power with No Room for Failure

CareUK operates vital 111 emergency call centres across the UK, providing critical services to the community. When launching two major new facilities in Dorking and Southall, they needed an advanced standby power solution that guaranteed zero downtime, especially during emergencies. 

However, each site presented unique challenges. Installing a generator at the Southall site was difficult due to the limited access. Dorking, on the other hand, didn’t have much space to work with, either, requiring their UPS to be positioned within a small underground car park.

Project Overview

Precision Engineering and Smart Installation

HG Projects designed a power system tailored to each site’s limitations. In Southall, a reinforced concrete pad with enclosed fencing was built and the generator was lifted into position using a HIAB crane. Over in Dorking, we installed the generator on sloping ground, which required custom-made feet of varying heights to get a perfectly level setup.

We also installed special switches during a short planned shutdown. These switches help the UPS systems work together without any power interruptions. With the UPS units positioned and batteries configured, a full mains failure test was conducted to guarantee uninterrupted performance. These functions could be monitored remotely via a 3G SIM system, providing real-time status updates to CareUK for proactive power management.

From initial planning to final commissioning, HG Projects managed the entire installation process. This resulted in two fully operational call centres, equipped with a robust power solution that allows CareUK to continue serving the community without interruption, no matter the circumstances.
